This collection of photographs and materials represents the founding and initial construction of Glendale Community College at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale, AZ. The historic collection dates from initial planning (the founding of the Maricopa County Community College District in 1962 and subsequent expansion from the original Phoenix College) through the 1967 commencement, the first at the new northwest college site. Materials have been selected to present a varied record of the early college years and include architectural renderings, aerial views of the site, construction photographs, images of college life, and comments extracted from early college yearbooks and the student newspaper. The collection will expand to include a photographic record of college life and structures through the years. [For related materials from earlier years, see the Sahuaro Ranch History collection.]
